This buccal midazolam training course is for professional carers required to give this medication to treat seizures in the community. It is suitable for residential or care homes, those working in community health, or carers organisations.
Furthermore it also includes practical demonstrations of how to administer from both pre-filled syringes and bottle doses.
Latest guidelines from Epilepsy Nurse Associations for giving buccal midazolam in the community, recommends staff undertake an initial days training on Epilepsy Awareness. Shorter refresher sessions such as this, course would be suitable as a refresher. If you have not previously had a fuller Epilepsy awareness training course you are advised to attend one first.
As a result of buccal midazolam's serious side effects it is strongly recommended that the person dispensing this medication also has the following training:
2 ½ hours
12
A certificate valid for 2 years issued by the instructor
* Please note these are covered at a quicker pace as they form the basis of the longer initial session
Anyone working in an organisation where they may be required to administer Buccal Midazolam.
Following ESNA Guidelines from June 2019 it is recommended that staff complete an initial 4-6 hour day on epilepsy awareness prior to using this shortened version for future refreshers.
£250 for up to 12 people
